Weirton Festival of Nations set for Saturday

WEIRTON – Plans for the seventh-annual Weirton Festival of Nations are coming together, with a variety of music, dancing, food and other festivities set to take place beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Millsop Community Center.

Organizers anticipate more than 25 nationalities will be represented, through live performances, food and informational displays.

There is no cost for admission to the festival, which is organized by the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center.

Entertainment includes Victoria Gerst performing the national anthem; The Philippine-American Performing Arts of Greater Pittsburgh; Sanskruti School of Indian Dance and Music; Oglebay Institute Folk Dancers with Polish, Hungarian and German dances; Oglebay Institute Youth Folk Dancers with Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Bolivia and Sweden dances; St. Joseph School Choir; Sheena Chopra; Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh; Japanese sword dance by Tadashi Kato; Italian American Cultural Club of Steubenville; Sofia-Teresa, Lucia and Valentina DiBacco; bagpipes by Nila Boyd; Nandanik Dance Academy; Dr. J.K. Luthra and his grandchildren; Kyiv Ukrainian Dance Ensemble; and Yanlai Dance Academy.

Food vendors scheduled are Mount Olive Baptist Church with African-American/USA; Philptochos Society of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church with Greece; Taj Mahal Restaurant with India; Antonio Meucci Lodge 2506 with Italy; Philippine-American Performing Arts of Greater Pittsburgh with the Philippines; Bill Pendergrast with USA; Carter Bar-B-Que with USA (Soul Food); Jeffery Schuetz with kettle corn.

Additional displays include Diane Camilletti with American jewelry; Cindy Lucas with Bavarian dress and German dolls; Mary Belli Walters with Belli-Italia; Eve Barnhart with the China booth; Monte Pearson with Frontier persons; Despina Melonas with the Greece booth; Namita, Rohini and Rashmi Luthra with the India booth; Kelly Hannaoui, international student exchange; Victor Greco and Cindy Greco Lamp with the Italy booth; Dale Fryer with the American Indians booth; the Philippine-American Performing Arts of Greater Pittsburgh with the Philippines booth; and Yvonne Tuchalski with the Poland booth.
