East Liverpool City Hospital earns “A” for Social Responsibility on national ranking

EAST LIVERPOOL — East Liverpool City Hospital, a proud member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, has been recognized by the Lown Institute as one of the most socially responsible hospitals in America, receiving “A” grades in Equity, Value, and Outcomes on the 2025-26 Lown Institute Hospitals Index. Out of more than 3,500 hospitals measured by Lown, only 5% achieved honor roll status, with Hospital ranking among this select group of high performers.

East Liverpool City Hospital ranked #1 in Ohio for Social Responsibility and top ten in the Nation for Pay Equity. According to the Index, the hospital was also a top performer on Lown’s metrics for Value of Care, Patient Outcomes, Clinical Outcomes, and top five in Ohio for Cost Efficiency. These are independent rankings and hospitals do not apply or pay to be listed.

East Liverpool City Hospital was recognized as one of the top community hospitals in the United States, according to a ranking by Fortune and Premier. The hospital placed eleventh out of twenty in the medium community hospital category of Premier’s 100 Top Hospitals 2025 list, receiving this award for the eighth consecutive year (2018-2025). The Hospital has earned a Leapfrog safety grade of “A” from 2018 to 2025 and is the only hospital in the region to receive the Grade A award which echoes East Liverpool City Hospital’s commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care. East Liverpool City Hospital was the only five-star hospital awarded in both 2023, and 2024, from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the Ohio Valley, consisting of Columbiana, Jefferson, Harrison, and Belmont County in Ohio and Marshall, Brooke, Hancock, and Ohio County in West Virginia.

The Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility is the only ranking to combine metrics of health equity and value of care alongside patient outcomes, for more than 2,700 acute care and eight hundred critical access hospitals nationwide offering a holistic view of hospitals as total community partners. In the sixth annual rankings, the 2025-26 Lown Index evaluates hospitals on over fifty measures including novel metrics such as community benefit, racial inclusivity, and avoidance of overuse. Data sources include Medicare fee-for-service and Medicare Advantage claims, CMS patient safety data and hospital cost reports, and IRS 990 forms, among others.
