Oak Glen High School Scholar of the Month

Madelyn Thompson has been named the Oak Glen High School Lions Club Scholar of the Month for February 2025.
In Newell, West Virginia, Madelyn, 18, resides with her mother, Jennifer Snider, two brothers, Jacob and Jamison, and one sister, Megan. Madelyn’s GPA is a 4.0. She is an accomplished and committed student. Madelyn has had a great deal in her extracurricular and academic pursuits. She participates passionately in the track team and has qualified twice for the state finals, showcasing her athleticism and willpower. She was additionally acknowledged for her musical abilities as a two-time All-State Band qualifier, demonstrating her flexibility and dedication to excellence in a variety of professions.
Madelyn has demonstrated her leadership abilities and commitment to her school community by serving as the vice president of the student council in addition to her achievements in music and athletics. She also participates in the prom committee, helping to organize and carry out events that her peers will remember. Madelyn’s three years of Poetry Out Loud participation, in which she won the school competition in 2023, demonstrates her love of literature. Her admiration and gratitude for each of her teachers at school further demonstrate her upbeat outlook and appreciation for learning. Madelyn’s classmates elected her to the homecoming court for her sophomore, junior, and senior years in recognition of her good nature and school spirit.
She intends to further her education after high school, continuing her involvement in both athletics and music while exploring possibilities for personal and academic growth. Madelyn’s various interests and accomplishments have prepared her well for the future, and she hopes to make a meaningful contribution in any profession she decides to pursue.
