NCTA Wampum hikes

Wampum Chapter, North Country Trail Association will host a Closing the Gaps-Moving the NCT Off Road meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Columbiana Public Library, 332 N. Middle St. The group will be looking at county maps to explore opportunities to move the North Country National Scenic off of the road ways and into the woods, as well as follow up on project.

Wampum Chapter, North Country Trail Association will host a Christmas Eve morning hike at 9 a.m. Dec. 24 at Beaver Creek State Park. The group will meet in the Pioneer Village parking lot, 12021 Echo Dell Road, East Liverpool, and head east to Gretchen’s Lock before turning back. Feel free to bring some cookies to share afterwards. This is a moderate hike, 5 to 6 miles with a few steeper hills.

Wampum Chapter, North Country Trail Association will host a New Year’s Day hike at 9 a.m. Jan. 1, meeting at 3403 Old Darlington Road, Darlington, Pa., and heading west to Louthan Road before heading back. This is roughly 5.5 miles total and is not considered to be a beginner’s hike, mostly due to the steep hill at the start of the route. Wear appropriate footwear and bring some water.

EL committee meeting

A special meeting of East Liverpool Council Finance and Labor Committee has been called for 5:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in council chambers. The reason for the call is to consider minor changes to the captains and patrolman’s contracts.

Christmas open house

In conjunction with East Liverpool’s city-wide “Hometown Christmas” celebration, the Upper Ohio Valley Museum and Learning Center at the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame is hosting its annual Christmas Open House on Dec. 7 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. and is adding a new event, “the Night Before Christmas” on Dec. 6 at 5 p.m. On Friday night, visitors can jump start their holiday spirit with Beaver Local’s show choir, Rhythm In Red, and can sample Christmas beverages and snacks. Vendors will be set up for early Christmas shopping throughout the museum. On Saturday, visitors can view over 30 themed Christmas trees throughout the hall of fame. The model trains will be running throughout the day and there will be a raffle of a Lionel train that was donated by Crouse Hardware of North Lima. Along with live Christmas music and Santa Claus, there will be cookies and hot chocolate. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the festive atmosphere before the Christmas parade.

Ozer Ministries holiday

Ozer Ministries will be hosting a holiday open house on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The ministry will be adorned with whimsical Christmas displays. Ozer will provide gifts for the first 100 attendees, along with light refreshments and cookies. Several decorated Christmas Trees and gift baskets will be included in raffles.
