2020 Point Pleasant Ladies Aide Scholarship Awarded
Matthew Wright, son of Steve and Heide Wright of Chester, has been awarded the Point Pleasant Ladies Aide Scholarship for 2020. Matthew graduated from Oak Glen High School with Highest Honors.
Matthew is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he has participated in youth group, many VBS events, several 30-Hour Famine Weekends and helped with property committee projects. Along with Church activities, he is a multi-sports letterman and an avid outdoorsman. Matthew, through the years, has represented Type 1 Diabetes and has mentored many young people like him.
This particular scholarship has historical and sentimental meaning to Matthew. His Great-great-great Grandfather (Bill Herron) was a charter member of Point Pleasant Methodist Church which was established in 1886. His Great Grandmother (Betty Gibson) and his Great-Aunt (Jane Greenwalt) were members of the Aide until their death. Currently, Matthew’s Grandmother (Nancy Wright) and Great-Aunt (Joyce Beatty) are members of the ladies group.
Following graduation, Matthew is attending West Virginia University. He plans to obtain an engineering degree which he would like to use in developing better insulin management systems.
