VETERANS CHRISTMAS

With the help of EJ’s Family Restaurant and members of the community, the Chester Garden Club has successfully brightened the Christmas of 83 residents at the WV Veterans Home in Barboursville, W.Va. Generous individuals selected one of the 83 tags hung on the “Giving Tree,” each with the name of a veteran and a desired Christmas gift, bought and wrapped the gift, and returned it to EJ’s. Some local residents selected as many as four names. Without fail, all gifts were returned to the restaurant in time to be delivered for the annual Christmas party at the Veterans Home. Garden Club members Joanna Hobbs and Julie Kliner drove the van donated by Hancock County Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Newell, to Barboursville on Dec. 14, and personally delivered the gifts to the Veterans Home. The gifts were distributed to the residents at a Christmas party held on Dec. 22. According to Michael Stephens, recreation director, there were many smiles and tears. He said the residents were so thankful and appreciative. The veterans especially loved how the personalized gifts made each resident feel special.
