County Retired Teachers
LISBON — The Columbiana County Retired Teachers Association met recently at the Lisbon United Methodist Church for their monthly luncheon.
Nancy Dicken led the invocation and took roll call of each county school represented. Paula Patterson conducted the business meeting. Jerry Barnes and Rosemary Bruehler provided the minutes and treasurer’s report, respectively.
Gayle Noel updated the members on the Teacher Grant Awards. All Columbiana County Superintendents were emailed the application on Oct. 1 to share with their teaching staffs. Teachers must propose an educational plan detailing how the monies would be used in their classrooms. The deadline is Dec, 1 for the return of the applications. The CCRTA Grant Committee will select and notify each of the three winners of their $250 grant.
The local chapter was honored to have Carol Kinsey, Northest Ohio Regional STRS liaison, as a special guest along with the guest speaker, Gale Adkins, president of the Ohio Retired Teachers’ Association. Adkins shared the ORTA theme for the year “Advocacy Through Action”. He offered the ORTA Status Report and addressed two major concerns: membership (rallying retirees) and reinstating the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).
Loretta Davidson conducted the 50/50. Jim Davis was the winner and donated his winnings back as a contribution to the Teacher Grant Fund.
The next meeting will be noon Nov. 21 at the church. The program will be Christmas at the White House.
Any county educator interested in attending may contact Jerry Barnes at 853-3086.
