EMMANUEL MUSIC

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 767 Park Blvd., will mark the First Sunday of Advent, during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday, as well as conducting a special “Hanging of the Greens” ceremony. In this celebration, the church draws upon the symbolism of the placement of the pine, holly and ivy, (everlasting life and the blood of Jesus),and poinsettias (Jesus as “the bright morning star”) in the sanctuary. In addition to participating in an ensemble singing the traditional carol, “The Holly and the Ivy”, William Hogue, well known East Liverpool educator and politician, will offer a special arrangement of “Gesu Bambino” accompanied by David B. Kelly (piano) and Patricia Will (flute obligato). Hogue’s solo is especially meaningful as it marks his return to participating in such community events after a year’s long recuperation from kidney transplant surgery. (Submitted photo)
