Petroglyphs, petro meaning rock and glyph meaning symbol, are images carved into rock surfaces. Hundreds of these images were found along the Ohio River between Midland and Yellow Creek. All known carvings are now under the river but about a dozen tracings, made in 1908, will be displayed for the talk. She will present a slide show of these Native American carvings and talk about their origin and purpose. The talk will be followed by an opportunity for guests to design a symbolic image using clay. The clay-glyph will later be fired and returned to them. MoC Talks are held the second Friday of every month at noon at the Museum of Ceramics. They are free of charge and guests are welcome to bring their lunch.
