Fidelis Gamma holds monthly meeting

WEIRTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Fidelis Gamma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority for Women Educators held their meeting on Aug. 1 at Williams Country Club in Weirton. Hostesses Ruth Fuller and Carolyn Allison decorated the tables with beautiful rose garlands and scattered among the garlands were all kinds of birds. Since they each collect birds, they shared a “few” from their collections.

Four members have birthdays during the month: Nancy Deters ( 4th), Elaine McClung (19th), Jerry DeFilippo (24th), and Nancy Holdsworth (29th). The thought for the Day/Blessing was presented by Chaplain Lisa Subrick titled “Being Present” from the book You are Blessed.

The June minutes were read by Secretary Bonnie Queses and filed. Correspondences were also read from the Brooke County Public Schools and the Alzheimer Association. The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Carolyn Allison.

Courtesy Chairman Pat Accettolo continues to send cards. Membership Chairman Ruth Fuller presented the names of three prospective members. Fuller will extend an invitation to our September meeting.

After discussion, the members decided to continue meeting at 11:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of the month.

Members filled out a Chapter Needs Assessment (CNA) which is due by August 31st.

The WV Council of Chapter Presidents will meet August 10th in Fairmont. Those attending will be President Jerry DeFilippo, President-Elect Janet Benzo, Immediate Past President Ruth Fuller, WV State Bylaws Chairman Carolyn Allison and WV State Protocol Chairman Diane Higgins.

The International Convention held on July 17-20, 2019 report was presented by Diane Higgins. She gave an informative report highlighting many areas. All countries were welcomed by presenting flags of their country with their anthems being played. St. Jude and the Alzheimer Association will continue to be the focus of Alpha Delta Kappa Chapters. Changes to Bylaws were given. The Altruistic Project was Kids Against Hunger. Higgins was inspired by the speaker / author Liz Huntley who wrote the book More than a Bird and summarized it. The next International Convention will be in Texas in July 18 – 21, 2020.

President Jerry DeFilippo gave an update on members.

We are looking forward to our September 5th meeting. We will have our WV State President Diane Stilwell visiting with us. Also in September, member Shirely DeLuca, will present a World Understanding program about her visit to China.

The next meeting will be Sept. 5, and the hostesses will be Shirley DeLuca and Eileen Snyder.

The meeting was adjourned by singing “The Lamp of Alpha Delta Kappa.”
