Hancock County Museum

NEW CUMBERLAND — The regular meeting of the Hancock County Museum Commission was called to order at 6 p.m. by President Vivian Weigel who also led in the pledge to the flag.

Those attending were: Weigel, John Brenneman, Lois Caprini, Susan Welch, Bob McNeil, Janet Keller, Alice Mitchell, Doris Cameron, and guest, Randy Skiles.

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as mailed.

Treasurer, McNeil presented the financial report which was placed on file for audit.

Committee Reports: Brenneman reported on the water heater and suggested we consider a lower volume tank or Point of Usage unit. It will require some plumbing and electrical work. Group authorized him to seek bids for this system.

Car Show was held Sunday, June 9. Alice Mitchell coordinated food and bake sale.

New Business: McNeil reported he has contacted BHJ regarding assistance with grant applications but has had no response. Also, communication with WVU architectural department has been unfruitful.

We have plans to repair both front porch and back porch but finding workers to take on this job has been difficult.

The glass display case in the parlor has been designated as the place to showcase Laura Greathouses’ early American display and Janet Keller will assist her in arrangement of same.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.

Our next meeting will be held on July 11 (a week later due to the holiday). We welcome anyone interested in sharing the history of our county.
