Quinlan named Lions Scholar of the Month
NEW CUMBERLAND — Kennedy Quinlan has been named the Lions Scholar of the Month for April 2019. A senior at Oak Glen High School, she is the daughter of Tim and Christy Quinlan of Chester.
She is a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Chester. As a freshman she was chosen to represent Hancock County at the week-long Church Conference at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, W.Va. She is the youth representative for her Church’s Council. Some of her activities through the church include Vacation Bible School, collecting/distributing for FISH, making meal packets for Stop Hunger Now, as well as working both the Good Shepard Lunch and various fundraisers at the local American Legion. During church services she has served as the Liturgist and been a nursery volunteer.
She has participated in both Cross Country and Track while at Oak Glen. In Cross Country she lettered all four years and was a ranked runner in the State of West Virginia each of those years. She was a medalist at the OVAC championships her freshman, sophomore, and junior years. She was team captain her senior year. She also lettered and was a member of the track team for two years. Miss Quinlan received the OVAC All-Conference Academic Award all four years.
Active in both school and community, she has been member of the National Honor Society and the Prom Committee for the past two years. As a sophomore she was chosen to represent OGHS in the Weirton Rotary Club Youth Leadership Program. Her junior year she was selected to attend Rhododendron Girl’s State at Davis and Elkins College. She was a member of the Prom Court her junior year. She is a member of student council and has acted as both class secretary and treasurer during her tenure at Oak Glen.
She has been accepted into the Honors College at West Virginia University where she plans to major in accounting with a minor in management informational systems. She plans to continue her education by getting her master’s degree in accounting with the goal of becoming a Certified Public Accountant.
The Lions Scholar of the Month program is sponsored by District 29L, Region 1, and Zone 1 which consists of Lions Clubs in Chester, Newell and New Cumberland.
