Tice named Scholar of the Month

NEW CUMBERLAND — Graci Tice, 18, member of Oak Glen High School’s 2019 graduating class, has been chosen to be Lions Club Scholar of the Month for February. She is the daughter of Mark and Becky Tice of Chester.

She has participated in both volleyball and softball throughout high school. She is a four-year letterman in volleyball. As a member of the varsity team, they won the Sectional tournament every year. In 2015, the team got runner up in the AA tournament at the West Virginia State Tournament in Charleston. She was a member of the team in 2018, when they made it back to the state tournament, but fell short early on. She was a two-year letterman in softball. She was a member of the 2017 Regional championship team, who finished fourth in the WVSSAC state tournament. She received the OVAC all academic award all four years of high school.

Tice is also a part of the Key Club where she participates in community service activities. Two of her of favorite activities to volunteer for are the annual Chili cook-off at Chester’s Hometown Christmas, and collecting for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF during Halloween time. She represented OGHS at the Weirton Rotary Club Youth Leadership program her sophomore year.

During both her junior and senior year, she was elected vice president of her class, as well as, being a member in the student council. She is a member of the National Honor society, and was elected treasurer her senior year. She was a member of the Homecoming court both her junior and senior year, and the Prom court her Junior year.

Her junior year she was selected to attend Rhododendron Girl’s state at Davis and Elkins College.

Following High School, she plans on attending West Virginia University and majoring in nursing.
