The Chester Lions Club successfully hosted its annual Dave Smith Memorial Chili Cook-off in conjunction with Chester’s Hometown Christmas celebration on Dec. 1. The contest was renamed this year in memory of the club’s longtime member and dear friend, Dave Smith, who was instrumental in organizing the cook off over the years. It was an honor that two of Smith’s children, Nathan from Morgantown and Ashley Dahlman from the Cincinnati area, and his brother, Darwin from New Philadelphia, were on hand to participate in the cook-off. Shelly Reed was awarded first place, and Abbie Milner was selected as People’s Choice. The club appreciates everyone who entered the cook-off; all of the entries were excellent. Thanks to the Chester Volunteer Fire Department for once again allowing the club to host the event in their station and assisting with the setup. Thanks to everyone who stopped in to sample the chili, the judges, and Jacob Adams, Melena Mueller, Jarrett Gittings, and Conor Blake from the Oak Glen Key Club for helping with the event. Pictured are some of the members of the Chester Lions who participated (from left) Doug Comm; Donnie Murray; Jimmy Beckman; Dan Allison; Marshall Hobbs, Ashley Dahlman (with the trophy) and her husband Kevin; Nathan; Bob Milner; Pete Arner; and Steve Wilson.
