Annual chili cook-off set for Dec. 1

CHESTER — The Chester Lions Club annual “Dave Smith Memorial Chili Cook-Off” in conjunction with Hometown Christmas in Chester, takes place Dec. 1, at the Chester Volunteer Fire Department.

The cook-off has been renamed in honor Lion Dave Smith, who was instrumental in organizing the cook off over the years.

There is one category open to any individual, business, fire department, church, or other organization. Any type of chili (green, with meat, without meat, with beans, without beans, etc.) may be entered. Chili must be prepared off site and brought to the fire hall by 10 a.m. in a container that will allow the chili to remain at a safe temperature throughout the contest.

The winner will be selected by a local panel of chili “experts.” The winner will receive half of the collected entry fees.

There will also be a “Peoples’ Choice” award determined by the most votes cast by the attendees. A vote will cost $1, and there is no limit on the number of votes cast by each attendee. Proceeds will be split between winner and the Lions Club.

To enter the contest, contact Bob Milner robert.milner@verizon.net using the subject Chili Cook-Off or 304-387-0917. Proceeds benefit the Chester Lions Club, and its support of local vision initiatives and charities.
