Hall of Fame scholarships

EAST LIVERPOOL — The Lou Holtz/Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame is offering the opportunity at the Lou Holtz Life Improvement Scholarship program for seniors in designated area high schools who plan to attend a two-year trade school.

This scholarship program has been administered through the facility since 1999.

Up to six annual scholarships, in the amount of $5,000 each, are awarded with funding made available from Lou and Beth Holtz. Those students who meet requirements are eligible to receive an additional $5,000 their second year. Students are chosen by a Hall of Fame scholarship committee on the basis of an entry form, essay and personal interview process.

Additionally the scholarship program is enhanced by partnerships with New Castle School of Trade, Ohio Valley College of Technology and Pittsburgh Technical College, each of which has agreed to match the scholarship of an eligible student annually, if one who is enrolling in their school applies and is selected for the Life Improvement Scholarship. Those students designated for matching scholarships receive a combined award of up to $10,000 the first year and $10,000 the second year.

Also this year, for the second time, the Hall of Fame will administer a $2,000 one-time award made possible by Dr. Marc and Cindy Hoffrichter.

Companies or individuals interested in helping area youth seeking two-year trade school educations by establishing scholarships to be administered by the Holtz Hall of Fame and trade schools willing to provide matching funds for scholarship recipients are encouraged to contact Hall of Fame Director Robin Webster at 330-386-5443.

Eligible high schools include East Liverpool, American Spirit Academy, Beaver Local, Buckeye Online School for Success, Southern Local, Wellsville, Edison, Toronto, Steubenville, Steubenville Catholic Central, Indian Creek, Buckeye Local, Martins Ferry, Bridgeport and Quaker Digital Academy, in Ohio; South Side, Midland, PA Cyber, and Lincoln Park Performing Arts, in Pennsylvania; and Oak Glen, Weir, Brooke, Wheeling Park, Wheeling Central Catholic, and Weirton Madonna, in West Virginia.

Additional information and entry forms available from school guidance counselors or at the Hall of Fame.
