Emergency HEAP and Winter Crisis season begins
LISBON — The Community Action Agency of Columbiana County (CAA) is taking applications now through March 31 for Emergency HEAP and Winter Crisis Program at the Lisbon office, 7860 Lincole Place (rear).
Appointments can only be made by calling the automated scheduling system by calling 330-424-1386. Homebound and seniors age 60-older may call 330-424-4013 for appointment assistance. Walk-in applicants will be taken on a first-come, first-serve bases during the period of Nov. 1-10, beginning at 8 a.m., with the exception of Nov. 11, when the office will be closed to observe Veterans Day. Walk-ins will stop once the maximum number of daily appointments are reached.
“We experience a high volume of applications during the beginning of the Winter Crisis Program and seating is limited and the wait time to be seen can be longer,” a release reads.
CAA does not allow customers on the property overnight from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Walk-ins will be taken during a “HEAP Super Saturday,” Nov. 19, event for those unable to attend during weekdays. This event will also be on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 8 a.m.
Beginning Nov. 14, a limited number of walk-ins will be seen starting at 8 a.m. on a first come, first serve bases with scheduled appointments beginning at 9.
Assistance is provided once during the season, to low income households that have had utilities disconnected, face a shut off, or heat with bulk fuel and have a tank that is 25 percent or less of its capacity. The program can assist with home heating fuel, propane, wood, coal, regulated and unregulated utilities.
Applicants must bring the following items to their appointment: social security cards and birth certificates for those in the household, proof of child support paid or received, and proof of gross income for the last 90 days or 12 months for all members of the household. Households with a member who is classified as permanently and totally disabled must provide proof at the time of the interview.
If a household does not bring the required information to complete the application, they will be required to schedule another appointment or bring the information back during walk-in hours.
Any information provided by clients will be retained and may be shared with the utility company.
