Bears off to a good start

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A total of eight Oak Glen wrestlers advanced to the championship semifinal on Friday at the West Virginia Seconday School Activities Commission, Class AA, Region 1 wrestling tournament at Fairmont Senior Field House.

Camden Barr (106), Shawn Moore (113), Clayton Lamb (120), Peyton Hall (138), Jonathan Creese (145), Dylan Heinrich (170), Kyler O’Connor (195) and Cole English (285) all reached the championship semifinals and are alive for regional championships.

The top four finishers in each weight class earn a spot at the West Virginia state wrestling tournament set for Feb. 21-23 at the Huntington Civic Center.

Regional action continues at 10:30 a.m. today. The finals will be contested at 2 p.m. on three mats.

Beavers on their way

COLUMBUS — The Beaver Local wrestling team is leaving for the seventh annual OHSAA state dual team tournament in Columbus this morning.

The Beavers are the third seed in Division II and will wrestle sixth-seeded Hamilton Ross, which is making its fifrth state appearance, at 1:15 p.m. Sunday at St. John Arena on the campus of Ohio State University. Weigh-ins are at 9 a.m.

The winners will meet in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. and the finals in all three divisions will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per sessions or $15 for an all-day tickets for both sessions. Doors open at 10 a.m. for the quarterfinals/semifinals and 6:45 p.m. for the finals.
