Golden Bears ready for state

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Oak Glen’s volleyball team will take on Region 3 champion Independence on Friday morning in the first round of the West Virginia Class AA state volleyball tournament at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Golden Bears (40-4-1) will take the floor on Court 1 following the opener between Bridgeport and Nitro at 8:30 a.m. The winner of Independence (39-11) and Oak Glen will take on the winner of Nitro and Bridgeport at 6:30 p.m. in the state semifinal.

The championship will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday on Center Court.

The other half of the bracket Class AA bracket has Winfield taking on Nicholas County and Region 1 champion Philip Barbour taking on Shady Spring.

A blind draw was held on Monday to determine the bracket.

Philip Barbour is also the defending state Class AA champion.

Admission is $8 for adults per session. Student cost is $7 per session.
