MILLERSBURG — The East Liverpool boys and Beaver Local girls 3200-meter relay teams are still in the running.

Both squads ran season bests for third-place finishes Thursday at the Division II district meet at West Holmes High School.

East Liverpool sophomores Levi George and Timmy Neal and freshmen Braidyn Wright and Brannan Smith were less than 2 seconds out of second place in 8 minutes, 34.87 seconds.

Beaver Local seniors Megan Buchheit, Alexa Schwerha and Caitlin Lerussi and freshman Hannah Logston were third in the girls relay (10:23.13).

Right ahead of them in second place was Minerva seniors Mackenzie Scott and Ava Burman and juniors Sarah Carver and Nelle Yankovich (9:59.08).

The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet at Muskingum University next week.

Minerva had three more individual qualifiers — freshman Garrison Markins was fourth in the boys long jump (20-feet-1 1/4), freshman Shelby Wheeler was fourth in the girls high jump (5-0) and junior Natalie Crum was fourth in the girls shot put (34-1).

Results from Thursday’s action were not posted until Friday morning due to computer problems at the site.

The district meet concludes Saturday with the remaining field events at 10 a.m. and the running finals at 11 a.m.
