Tigers close regular season on a high note

WELLSVILLE–The Wellsville boys basketball team closed the regular season on a high note with a 76-47 victory over Leetonia Friday.

The Tigers finish the regular season at 15-7 overall and 9-5 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference.

Garrett Scott led the Tigers with 19 points and six assists. Tristen Hinkle added 17 points, while Brandon Patterson added 12 points and nine rebounds. Cameron Davis finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

Roman Ferry led the Bears with 17 points.

Wellsville won the jayvee game 48-27.

Both teams open Division IV sectional play on Tuesday. Eighth-seeded Wellsville hosts ninth-seeded Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas. Eleventh-seeded Leetonia travels to sixth-seeded Lisbon.

Western Reserve 74, Waterloo 62

BERLIN CENTER–Behind a 17 point and 13 rebound performance from Jack Cappabianca led Western Reserve to a 74-62 win over Waterloo in its regular season finale.

The Blue Devils finish the regular season with a 15-6 record overall and a 10-4 mark in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference.

Western Reserve also saw contributions from Cole DeZee with 13 points and eight assists. Riley Miller had 11 points and two steals. Kade Hilles had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Western Reserve starts Div. IV tournament action hosting Heartland Christian on Tuesday.
