Huskies shoot past Golden Bears

NEW MANCHESTER, W. Va–The Oak Glen boys basketball team fell to a sharp shooting Harrison Central team 79-73 on Friday night.

The Golden Bears drop to 14-7 on the season.

The Golden Bears and Huskies went into halftime tied at 41 but Harrison Central outscored Oak Glen 38-32 in the second half.

Ethan Travis led Oak Glen with 25 points. Sean Smith and Jarrett Gittings each contributed 13 points. Chris Kokowski chipped in nine points.

Oak Glen returns to action Thursday when they travel to John Marshall.

WELLSBURG, W. VA–The Beaver Local boys basketball team lost a tight contest to Brooke 54-52 on Friday night in an OVAC consolation pool play game.

Luke Chetock led the Beavers with 13 points and four rebounds. Josh Hilditch added 11 points.

The Beavers trailed the Bruins 26-24 at halftime and 41-37 at the end of three but would ultimately fall short in the fourth.

Beaver returns to action when they travel to East Liverpool on Feb. 27 for opening round Division II tournament action.

NEW MIDDLETOWN–The Springfield boys basketball team overpowered Lisbon 78-55 Friday.

Evan Ohlin and Drew Clark powered the Tigers with 22 and 21 points respectively. Shane Eynon added 16 points.

Lisbon’s Justin Sweeney led all scorers with 24 points. Dougie Minor added 11 points. Ryan McCullough and Branson Brownfield each had eight points.

Lisbon drops to 12-9 overall.

Springfield won the jayvee game 43-34. Michael Davis led the Blue Devils with 12 points.

Lisbon is at Malvern Tuesday.

Wellsville-Buckeye postponed

WELLSVILLE–The Buckeye Local-Wellsille basketball game for Friday night was cancelled due to flooding and unsafe roads around Buckeye Local. The game is reschedueled for Tuesday night.

Southern 63, Bridgeport 60

BRIDGEPORT–The Southern boys basketball team beat Bridgeport 63-60 in an OVAC consolation pool play on Friday night.

Southern returns to action on February 27 when they host Waterloo in first round tournament action.
