Huskies have Potters’ number again

EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool boys basketball team faced off against Harrison Central for the second time in four days and the Huskies once again brought its hot perimeter shooting.

The Huskies knocked down 13 three-pointers to help them overcome East Liverpool 82-70 on Tuesday night.

East Liverpool drops to 8-11 on the season.

Harrison Central improves to 13-4.

“Man they shoot the ball well,” East Liverpool coach Nate Conley said. “They knocked down 27 three-pointers between the two games. We changed up how we played them on Saturday but they were still making it.”

Harrison Central made 14 three-pointers in Saturday’s 85-76 win.

“The effort was there,” Conley said. “We worked hard but we had too many turnovers giving them extra chances down the stretch.”

The Potters went into the final quarter down 57-56 but the Huskies started the quarter on a 23-8 run behind the hot-shooting hands of Kobe Mitchell and Caden Arbaugh.

Mitchell had 18 points to lead Harrison Central. Arbaugh contributed 12 points.

“We ran out of gas a little bit in the fourth,” Conley said. “We were missing shots and not getting back fast enough. Harrison Central is a fast team and beat our transition defense.

“We fought with them for three quarters but the game slipped away from us in the fourth.”

East Liverpool was led by Gabe Roach with 23 points and Brennan O’Hara with 13 points.

The Potters had the lead before the half at 30-27 but the Huskies ran to a 13-7 run to take a 40-37 lead into the locker room.

Tre Jackson finished with 10 points for the Potters.

Harrison Central also saw contributions from Caden Dalton with 17 points and DeJuan Caldwell with 10 points.

“Harrison Central is an extremely talented basketball team,” Conley said. “I hope they do well down the stretch.”

East Liverpool will host Oak Glen on Friday.
