CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s senior night was filled with scoring and put the seniors out in style with a 69-25 win over Oak Glen on Friday night.

The Beavers were looking to bounce back after two straight shutout losses and they did in a big way.

Garrett Givens highlighted the night with five rushing touchdowns.

In his second week back from injury senior Michael Clendenning started the night in a big way for Beaver Local when he had an 80-yard touchdown run.

“It felt pretty good,” Clendenning said. “I practiced hard and some physical therapy to get back.

Clendenning had 166 rushing yards before leaving in the first quarter after he reinjured his ankle.

“It was great to come out on senior night,” he said.

Beaver Local finishes the season 7-3.

“It’s always nice to send our seniors out on a win,” Beaver Local coach Mike McKenzie said. “A chance for them to get some recognition and its a nice way to end their careers.”

Oak Glen hung around in the first quarter thanks to an aerial assault from Golden Bear quarterback Nick Chaney.

Ethan Travis reeled in a lob pass and ran 75 yards for the touchdown.

Travis had 157 yards on five catches for the Golden Bears.

The first quarter also featured a 10-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Patterson and a 11 yard touchdown pass to Zach Taylor.

“We started to put some safety help over the top,” McKenzie said. “Early on we wanted to get some pressure but Chaney got the ball off so quick we had to drop more people in coverage.”

After three first-quarter touchdown passes from Chaney, the Beavers went on a scoring run.

The Beavers scored 47 points unanswered to jump out to the huge lead.

The scoring run started when Givens had a 28 yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter with 9:25 remaining.

Givens finished 61 yards and five touchdowns.

Senior Torey Calio finished the night with a 56 yard punt return touchdown and a 47 yard rush for a touchdown.

“It’s undescribable,” Calio said. “Words would not do tonight justice.”

“I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else these past four years.”

Oak Glen falls to 2-7 on the season and will finish the season next week at Wheeling Central Catholic.

“We were able to execute on some big plays in the first half,” Oak Glen coach Ted Arneault said. “We are just a really young team and Beaver Local is a very good football team.

“The team has become very close and that’s one thing I am proud of. The seniors on this team have set the tone for this team for the future.”

Mike McKenzie finishes his first year at Beaver Local with the best record since 2005.

“It’s nice to get this win,” McKenzie said. “At times I felt like I let this team down not getting another win but it’s nice that the kids bought in and how great it was to come to practice everyday this season.”
