East Liverpool boys heating up in Buckeye 8

The Wellsville soccer team honored Cathy Salter, a 1982 graduate of Wellsville High School who was killed in the New York City terror attack on Sept. 11, 2001, on Monday at the team’s match with Leetonia at Nicholson Stadium. CADIZ — East Liverpool’s boys soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Harrison Central on Tuesday in Buckeye 8 Athletic League play.

For the Potters, Josh Recktenwald and Brennan O’Hara had goals. Ayden Payne had two assists. Recktenwald has 16 goals on the season.

Mike Argabrite had four saves. The Potters are 6-1-1 and 3-0-1 in the Buckeye 8.

The Potters sit second in the OVAC 4A standings behind Steubenville.

East Liverpool host Edison on Thursday at Patterson Field.

Leetonia 3, Beaver Local 2

LEETONIA — Leetonia’s girls soccer team beat Beaver Local’s reserves 3-2 on Tuesday.

Kylie Tullis had two goals for the Bears. Kayla Jackson added a goal. Kalie Eastek had an assist, while Zoe Bruderly had 10 saves in goal.

Syndie Holden and Danica Taylor scored for Beaver Local.

Leetonia 4, Wellsville 1

WELLSVILLE — Tommy Kornbau scored three goals and Joshua Zickafoose one as Leetonia downed Wellsville, 4-1, in soccer action Monday.

Isaiah Dorsey scored Wellsville’s goal off an assist by Eli Dieringer. Jonathan DeJane made 10 saves in goal for the Tigers.
