Potters give it their all at OVAC

WHEELING, W.Va–The East Liverpool doubles team of Chris Montgomery and Alex Tambellini advanced all the way to the OVAC 1A-4A boys OVAC Tennis Tournament semifinals before ultimately falling on Wednesday at West Liberty University.

Montgomery and Tambellini were defeated by the top-seeded team of Drew Hawthorne and Joe Gutmann from University by a score of 8-5.

On their path to the semifinal, Montgomery and Tambellini defeated fourth-seeded Ben Rosiello and Adrian Mascari from Morgantown 8-6 in the first round before knocking off Steubenville’s Brandon Delaratta and Frederico Torres 8-1 in the second round.

In number-two doubles action, East Liverpool’s Justin Blasdel and Austin Deering fell in the first round to Morgantown’s Sam Gorski and Hamilton Hall by a score of 8-2.

East Liverpool’s third doubles team of Caden Madison and Terran Stacey won their first round match 9-7 over Wade Powers and Isaiah Powers from Parkersburg South. Madison and Stacey fell 8-4 in round two to Akim Zaniel and Jeff Petty from Morgantown.

The Potters finished the day with three points and are in the lead in the team competition.

OVAC singles action gets underway today at 8:30 a.m. Montgomery is the fourth seed in the first singles bracket, while Tambellini is the No. 2 seed in the second singles.

FIRST FLIGHT: Drew Hawthorne-Joseph Gutmann (University) def. Jacob Rose-Riley Glines (John Marshall) 8-1

SECOND FLIGHT: Tyler Carpenetti-Isaac Stanberry (Cambridge) def. Kyle Hawthorne-Jackson Rutledge (University) 9-7.

THIRD FLIGHT: Akim Zanial-Jeff Petty (Morgantown) def. Jack Goggin-Reese Lingafelter (Cambridge) 8-2.
