Frantz jumps for joy

YOUNGSTOWN — Bethany College sophomore Leighanna Frantz highlighted area athletes at the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday.

Frantz, a 2015 graduate of East Liverpool High School, won the women’s high jump by clearing 4-feet-11 1/2 at the Watson and Tressel Training Site. Geneva senior Morgan Peaco was second at 4-10 1/4.

The top eight finishers in each event scored.

In the thrilling 3,000-meter final, Grove City freshman Heidi Hoffman from McDonald was first (10:46.78) and Washington & Jefferson sophomore Maggie Briceland from United was fourth (10:48.56). Briceland also ran on the second-place distance medley team.

Bethany junior Ashley Borsch from Edison was second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.54 seconds), fourth in the 400 meters (62.00) and seventh in the 200 meters (27.60).

Westminster freshman Maura Belding from Crestview placed in two events — fourth in the 1600-meter relay (4:24.39) and sixth in the 400 meters (63.10).

Grove City freshman Madelyn Kimpel from South Range was sixth in the distance medley.

Waynesburg, which won its first PAC cross country title in the fall, captured its first PAC indoor title with 146 1/2 points. Westminster was second with 108 and Geneva was third with 103.
