Potter bowling under way

EAST LIVERPOOL–The East Liverpool bowling teams kicked off their season Tuesday at Walnut Lanes against Harrison Central.

The East Liverpool boys team defeated the Huskies 2078-2004. Greg Baungarner had a high game of 203 for the Potters, while Andrew Deering had a high game of 171.

The East Liverpool girls team fell to Harrison Central 1825-1750. Jenny Wise had a 192 high game for the Potters, while Gabbi Reinhart had a high game of 190.

The Potters are back in action Monday, December 5 when they host Wellsville.

Southern hosting banquet

SALINEVILLE — The Southern Local boys basketball program will host its second annual Basketball Alumni Banquet at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 in the high school cafeteria.

The event is open to any former player, coach, manager or supporter. Will Johnston will be the keynote speaker. Cost is $10, while children 5 and under eat free.

Keeping an eye on Olentangy

POWELL — Beaver Local will have a rooting interest in the Olentangy Liberty football team, which is playing in the state semifinals.

Senior starting defensive end Chase Smith is the son of Ryan Smith, a 1988 graduate of Beaver Local, and the late Kim Holzer. Chase Smith received honorable mention on the Associated Press All-Central District team announced recently.

Olentangy Liberty’s head coach is Steve Hale, a 1985 graduate of Beaver Local High School.

Third-ranked Olentangy Liberty (13-0) will meet fourth-ranked Cleveland St. Ignatius (12-1) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Mansfield’s Arlin Stadium in the Division I semifinals.

Holiday Hustle 5K coming

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville High School National Honor Society will host the inaugural Holiday Hustle 5K at 9 a.m. Dec. 3 at the high school. Registration is at 8 a.m. in the auditeria. Cost is $15 before Thanksgiving, $20 after.

Championship games upcoming

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Division II state championship football game will be the first one held next Thursday on the campus of Ohio State University.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the state championship schedule, which includes three games on both Dec. 2 and 3 at Ohio Stadium.

Single-game tickets will be available next week at the participating schools for $10 or at the Ohio Stadium ticket office before each game for $15 (club level, with indoor acces) or $12 (reserved).
