Potters drop opener to Buckeye

EAST LIVERPOOL — A big second quarter by Buckeye Local sent the East Liverpool girls basketball team to a 59-36 opening night loss on Monday at Potter Fieldhouse.

Buckeye Local outscored the Potters 26-10 in the second quarter to break the game open. Emily Holzapfel had 21 points to spark the Panthers. Alaine Destifones added 17 points.

Skye Stokes powered the Potters with 14 points and six rebounds.

East Liverpool will be at Brooke on Thursday.

The Potters won the jayvee game 18-16. Kayla Newlun had 11 points for the winners. Darshay Foster added seven points.

Western Reserve 59, Southern 34

BERLIN CENTER — Anna Sevek scored 24 points ande ight rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Southern Local dropped a 59-34 decision to Western Reserve on Monday.

Alexis Hughes had 15 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and four steals for the winners.Laura Sigworth and Gabbie Baranowski had seven points each. Maddy Owen had six steals.

Stella Karcher added seven rebounds.

Western Reserve won the jayvee game, 47-21, over Cardinal Mooney.

Baranowski and Nicci DiCioccio had 10 points each.

Western Reserve is at South Range on Thursday. Southern is at Crestview on Thursday.

Menina Jackson added 12 points and five boards.

Wellsville hosts Springfield Local on Thursday.

Alexa Harkins led the Rams with 39 points.

East Palestine won the jayvee game, 21-17. Kenzee Johnston and Jaliyah Mixon had six points each.
