Lisbon off and running

HANOVERTON–The Lisbon girls basketball team was clicking on all cylinders as the Blue Devils raced to a 62-39 season-opening win over United Friday.

Karlee Pezzano led a balanced effort for Lisbon with 12 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Izzy Perez added 11 points and five assists, while Autumn Oehlstrom added 10 points and nine rebounds. Ali Davis and Mackenzie Mason each chipped in nine points.

The Blue Devils shot 50 percent from the floor.

For United, Hannah Mix led the way with 11 points. Loren Swords and Haleigh Anderson each supplied six points.

United won the jayvee game 34-17. Celeste Hofmeister led the Eagles with 11 points. Cadee Johnson had five points for Lisbon.

Both teams are back in action Monday. Lisbon hosts South Range, while United travels to McDonald.

Palestine 9

LEETONIA — Leetonia’s girls basketball team got to work in its opener by downing East Palestine 38-9 on Friday.

Kristy Eckman had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Bears who limited East Palestine to a 2 for 43 performance from the field. Elizabeth Mills added eight points for the Bears. Sabrina Schneider had three steals.

Brysten Trosky had six rebounds for the Bulldogs.

East Palestine won the jayvee portion, 26-18. Kenzie Johnston had six points for the winners. Kylie Tullis scored six points for the Bears.

BERLIN CENTER–The Columbiana girls basketball team got its season off to a fast start with a 56-29 blowout over Western Reserve in season opening action for both teams Friday.

The Clippers held the Blue Devils to just two points in the first quarter and were in control the whole way.

Kennedy Fullum and Taylor Hall each tallied 12 points to pace Columbiana. Mariah Rovnak added 11 points for the Clippers, while Tessa Liggett had nine points.

Alexis Hughes led the Blue Devils with 11 points. Hughes and Gabbie Baranowski each pulled dow five rebounds.

Columbiana won the jayvee game 48-30.

Grace Hammond led the Clippers with eight points.

Western Reserve hosts Southern Monday.
