Potters dedicate Buckeye 8 win to coach

CADIZ – It was “A Win For Quinn” Friday for the East Liverpool golf team at the first round of the Buckeye 8 Tournament at Cadiz Country Club.

The Potters took the first round after shooting a 319, led by medalist Isaac Davidson with a 73 along with Alex Tambellini, the low-scoring freshman, with a 79. Austin Burson had 82 and Jay Lane had 85.

The victory was dedicated to coach Quinn Carter, whose son, Zane, was found dead Thursday in Wellsville. The team members wore orange and black wrist bands as a tribute to their coach and his son.

Also participating in the tournament was Beaver Local, who placed fifth in the field of nine teams with 391. Joe Mueller led the Beavers with 78, followed by Quentin Carr with 83, Cameron Lane with 112 and Jeremy Morgan with 118.

Other teams participating included Harrison Central, who finished second at 346, followed by Indian Creek at 370, Edison at 379, Union Local at 403, St. Clairsville at 409 and Martins Ferry at 414. Buckeye Local did not finish.

The Potters compete today in the Cardinal Classic at Mill Creek Park in Youngstown.
