East Liverpool falls to Steubenville

STEUBENVILLE – East Liverpool took Steubenville to the limit but came up short in a 26-24, 25-21, 11-25, 20-25, 16-14 loss on Monday in the season volleyball opener.

For East Liverpool (0-1), Madison White had 16 points; Paige Craig five kills, 15 points; Caitlyn Davis seven points, eight kills, three blocks; Kiandra Cowart 10 kills, four blocks; Lindsay Baker 12 kills; Sierra Voorhees 10 assists.

East Liverpool won the jayvee match 25-21, 25-20. Sage Calhoun had eight points for the winners. Mariah Beachy added five kills.

Steubenville won the freshman match 20-25, 18-25, 25-12.

Aeriden Brown and Breannan Hall had 12 points each for East Liverpool.

The Potters host Martins Ferry today.

Malvern 3, Southern 1

SALINEVILLE-The Southern volleyball team couldn’t keep momentum after winning the first set, as the Indians fell to Malvern 21-25, 25-12, 28-26 and 28-25 in their season opener Monday.

For the Indians (0-1), Hannah Brothers had 39 assists, Abbey Smalley had 12 kills and Anna Sevek had 12 kills and four blocks.

Southern won the jayvee match 25-18, 25-23.

The Indians travel to Lisbon on Saturday for a tri-match with the Blue Devils and Leetonia.
