Moxley will help lead Ohio defense

Jose Davis has completed his positional roster for the OVAC All-Star Charity Football Classic, which will kick off July 27 at Wheeling Island Stadium.

Davis, who is the former head coach at Bellaire and current coach at St. John Central, has named his defensive backs and his kicker for the game.

The players and coaches reported to camp this morning at Bethany College.

“We’ve got some receivers who we can use as defensive backs too,” Davis said. “We’re going to take at look at these guys and find the best ones suited to help us.”

As for the placekicker, Davis chose St. Clairsville’s Zach Musilli, who had a brilliant career.

“We’ve obviously faced Musilli and he’s a kid who can kick the ball very consistently,” Davis said. “We feel like if we get to the 20 or 30 yard line, it’s guaranteed points, which can go a long way.”

Here’s a capsule look at the players:

MARCUS MOXLEY, Wellsville – This talented safety played basically all over the field for Coach Rich Wright’s squad.

The 6-0, 180 pounder was listed as an athlete for the offensive side of the ball and was impressive as a runner and receiver.

Moxley was a first-team all-Ohioan, all-ITCL and all-Quad County.

Marcus, who is the son of Kristie Reed and Marcus Moxley, is undecided about his college plans.

BRYCE CROSS, River – This Pilots’ product was a standout on both sides of the ball for Coach Mike Flannery’s team.

The 5-11, 182 pounder played linebacker and running back for the Pilots. Defensively, he had 49 solo tackles and 76 assists. He also had two sacks.

On the offensive side of the ball, he had 432 yards and five touchdowns rushing and then caught 33 balls for 296 yards and a score.

Cross was a first-team all-Eastern District, all-OVAC, all-Times Leader and all-Valley.

Bryce, who is the son of Scott and Stacy Cross, is undecided about his future plans.

MORGAN DOUGHERTY, Buckeye Trail – This former Warrior played quarterback for then head coach Dale Broomhall.

The 6-1, 185 pounder ran for 803 yards and 13 touchdowns and passed for 911 more yards and six touchdowns. Defensively, he had 33 tackles and two interceptions.

Dougherty was a first-team all-OVAC, second-team all-Eastern District and all-PVC selection.

Dougherty was also a standout in track and field for the Warriors.

Morgan, who plans on attending Defiance College, is the son of Todd and Mary Dougherty.

CHEZ GLENN, Toronto – This former Red Knight was one of the most electric players on the field.

The 5-7, 165 pounder ran the ball 180 times for 1,323 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also caught 41 passes for 657 yards and six touchdowns.

Glenn was first-team all-OVAC, all-Eastern District and chosen for the Penn-Ohio game.

Along with football, Glenn was a standout in baseball for the Red Knights.

Away from sports, Glenn was active in Key Club and Varsity Club.

Chez, who is the son of Larry and Lynda Glenn, plans on attending Franciscan University.

ZACH MUSILLI, St. Clairsville – This talented kicker was a definite weapon for Coach Brett McLean’s team.

The 5-9, 155 pounder finished his career with 200 career points. He had 11 field goals and 167 PAT kicks.

Musilli was the first-team all-Ohio kicker in Division V last fall. He was all-Buckeye 8, all-Valley, all-Times Leader and St. C. Special Teams Player of the Year.

Musilli also took part in the Ohio North-South All-Star Game.

Zach, who plans on attending West Liberty University, is the son of Hank and Mary Lynn Musilli.
