TENNIS: Potters finish regular season 14-0

LORDSTOWN – East Liverpool’s spring tennis team finished its regular season 14-0 and captured the Northeast Tennis League title with an 8-0 record by topping Lordstown twice on Thursday.

The Potters finished a suspended match against the Red Devils where Sutton Stacey and Cole Hamilton beat Jiryes Rafid and Alex Delacruz 7-6, 6-4 to claim the 3-2 team victory.

The Potters went on to sweep the singles in the other match in a 3-2 win to finish the regular season unbeaten.

The league title was East Liverpool’s sixth in the last 11 years. Jonathan Montgomery finished the season 14-0, while Joey Bickerton was 13-1 and Nick DiLoreto 11-3.

DiLoreto still has tennis to play as he will travel to Ohio University to play in the Div. II district tournament on Saturday.

SECOND SINGLES: Joey Bickerton (EL) def. Jake Huth, 6-1, 6-2.

THIRD SINGLES: Jonathan Montgomery (EL) def. Bruce Pyles, 6-1, 6-3.

FIRST DOUBLES: Nick Johnson-Nick Jones (L) def. Andrew Hutchman-Patrick Clark, 6-1, 6-1.

SECOND DOUBLES: Mark Bafidi-Alex Delacruz (L) def. Cole Hamilton-Sutton Stacey, 6-2, 6-2.
