Six Potters head to regionals

MILLERSBURG-East Liverpool seniors Shae Long and Zack English are heading to to the Division II regionals in three events.

Long was second in both the high jump (6-feet-4) and 300-meter hurdles (42.20) to lead the Potters at Saturday’s district meet Sat West Holmes High School.

He also joined English, Jake Allen and Chase Mahon on the 1600 relay team that finished third (3:31.74).

English was third in the 400 dash (51.50) after winning the long jump Thursday.

Jake Allen also was fourth in the 300 hurdles (43.17).The top four finishers in each event advance to regional meet at Muskingum University in New Concord on Thursday and Saturday.

East Liverpool’s Lindsay Baker took fourth in the discus (108-1). Teammate Leighanna Frantz qualified in the high jump Thursday.

For Beaver Local, Robbie Johnston advanced in the 100 dash with a fourth-place finish (11.75) and Madison Roberts finished fourth in the 400 dash (62.37).

The Minerva girls enjoyed a successful afternoon, with Maddie Fischer winning the discus with a toss of 117-10.

Also for the Lions, Emmalee Markins finished first in the 100 dash (12.92), while Kate Christensen placed third in the 100 hurdles (16.82) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (49.82). Lauren Haynam also was fourth in the long jump (14-11).

For the Minerva boys, Alec Mueller placed third (2:01.26) in the 800 run and Duncan Freeland was third in the 3200 run (10:30.71).
