Warriors top Potters in baseball opener

CARROLLTON – The East Liverpool baseball team had a tough time with Carrollton before rain forced an early end to the season-opening doubleheader.

The Warriors pulled out a run in the 13th inning to topple the Potters 3-2. Ryian Burson and Ryan Bombich both had RBIs and Tyler Recktenwald had a double.

In the second game, the Warriors led 6-3 after three innings before the game was called off due to rain. The second game was not counted and will not be made up.

The Potters head to Oak Glen on Monday.

Beaver Local at Toronto

TORONTO – Beaver Local’s baseball team split its opening games on Saturday at Toronto.

In the first game, Chandler Cornell had Beaver Local’s only two hits in a 2-1 win aided by an 11-strikeout performance by Dom Muscari on the mound.

Toronto turnded around and limited Beaver Local to three hits in a 10-3 win in the second game. Chase Wilcox had a triple and two singles for Beaver Local.

The Beavers (1-1) head to Steubenville Central Monday.

Columbiana at Steubenville Central

STEUBENVILLE – The Columbiana baseball team opened the season on a low note as the Clippers dropped a doubleheader to Steubenville Central.

The Crusaders blanked the Clippers in a 10-0 no-hitter in the first game. Devin Rice struck out three and walked four in three innings for the Clippers.

The Crusaders then shut down the Clippers 8-1 in the second game. Nathan Garofalo had a strikeout and walked three in his four innings pitched for the Clippers.

The Clippers (0-2) head to Springfield on Wednesday.
