Scott named first team All-Ohio

COLUMBUS – Nate Scott’s records speak for themselves.

The Wellsville senior rode a record-setting career to gain first-team honors on the 2013-14 Associated Press Division IV All-Ohio boys basketball team released Tuesday.

Fellow Wellsville senior Camden Douglas also received special mention as he teamed with Scott to lead the Tigers to a 43-7 record and consecutive Inter-Tri County League lower tier titles the past two seasons.

Scott, one of the high-scoring players in Columbiana County history, averaged an area-high 22.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists a game. He shot 72 percent from two-point range and 40 percent from three-point range.

He set school records for most points in a career (1,623) and most three-pointers in a season (78) and career (227).

Scott is joined on the first team by Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas senior Austin Hill, who averaged 16.5 points a game.

St. Thomas defeated Wellsville in the district semifinals on the way to earning its first state berth since 1975. The Knights will play fourth-ranked Canal Winchester Harvest Prep in the Division IV state semifinals at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the Schottenstein Center.

Douglas was equally impressive as he averaged 14.1 points, an area-best 9.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds a game. He shot 58.6 percent from two-point range and 40.7 percent from three-point range.

Douglas and Scott guided the Tigers to a 22-3 season and a second straight Inter-Tri County League lower tier title.

Heartland Christian junior Glen Hoffman received honorable mention.

Heartland enjoyed a 12-win season as Hoffman averaged a team-high 21.0 points a game, five assists and five rebounds a game. He shot 40 percent from three-point range and 84 percent from the foul line.
