Potters, Beavers honored by district

COLUMBUS – East Liverpool’s Hayden Cunningham and Beaver Local’s Jared Lyder were rewarded for their strong senior seasons as each picked up Div. II Eastern District first team honors on Wednesday.

Cunningham, at 6-3, registered 18 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3 assists per game for the Potters. He also made 84 percent of his free throws and hit more than 50 percent of his three-point shots in addition to breaking the school record for points in a game with 51 against Cameron (W.Va.).

Lyder, at 6-4, scored 22 points while grabbing 12 rebounds per game.

Special mention went to East Liverpool’s Kade Reynolds (13 ppg). Receiving honorable mentions were East Liverpool’s D.J. Austin and Beaver Local’s Chase Hilliard.

For Minerva’s boys Jantzen Locke, a senior, scored 20.8 points per game and was named a second-team choice. Nick Clapper was a special mention.


East Liverpool 5-5 junior Nikayla Edgell grabbed second team all-district honors after registering 18.8 points, 3.8 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game.

East Liverpool’s Kiara Cowart, Beaver Local’s Danna Talbott and Sierra Wright were honorable mention selections.

Minerva’s Josie Chaddock and Lauren Haynam received special mention status. Morgan Preston was an honorable mention.
