Moore takes 8th in 50 freestyle

COLUMBUS – Beaver Local senior Hayden Moore got on the podium with an eighth place finish in the 50-meter freestyle on Friday at the Div. II district swim meet at Ohio State University.

Moore finished in a time of 23.49. Only the top two finishers in each event are guaranteed spots in the state swimming meet next weekend at Branin Natatorium at Canton McKinley High School.

Moore will have an outside shot of reaching the state meet as he’ll be in competition for one of 16 at-large bids determined by district results from around the state. Those at-large bids will be announced on Sunday.

Moore was also 21st in the 100 freestyle (53.32).

Also in boys action, East Liverpool senior Ian Smith was 25th in the 100 backstroke (1:09.44). Beaver Local’s David Lorah was 25th in the 100 butterfly (1:05.15). Beaver Local’s 200 freestyle relay team of David Lorah, Chandler Chaffins, Caleb Malcolm and Moore was 13th (1:43.08).

The Beaver 400 freestyle relay team of Lorah, Joe Houk, Chaffins and Malcolm was 24th (4:05.03). East Liverpool’s team of Palmer, Angus, Smith and Harris was 27th in the same event (4:10.31).

East Liverpool’s team of Marcus Campbell, Jake Angus, Zech Harris and Ransom Palmer were 24th (1:49.5) in the same event.

East Liverpool’s 200 medley relay team of Smith, Harris, Palmer and Campbell was 27th (2:06.49).

In girls action, Beaver Local sophomore Emma Shemasek took 27th in the 100 freestyle (1:02.58) and 30th in the 200 freestyle (2:22.31).

Beaver Local sophomore Claire Meredith was 23rd in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.6).

East Liverpool freshman Jaybreona Foster was 20th in the 100 breaststroke (1:17.31) and 21st in the 100 butterfly (1:11.02).

Beaver Local’s 200 freestyle relay of Laurel Meredith, Kayla Hayes, Claire Meredith and Shemasek was 17th (1:56.83). The Beaver Local 400 freestyle relay of Hayes, Laurel Meredith, Claire Meredith and Brooke Turner was 21st (4:39.55). The Beavers 200 medley relay team of Hayes, Claire Meredith, Laurel Meredith and Shemasek was 19th (2:12.41).
