Oak Glen wrestlers conquer East Liverpool

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. – The Oak Glen wrestling team celebrated senior night Wednesday with a 54-18 victory over cross river rival East Liverpool on the mats at the Oak Glen Fieldhouse.

Senior grapplers Josh Cornell, Avery Flowers, Shane Logston and Devin Orourke were honored before the match by their parents, student body and fans.

In a jesture of support the Potters adorned their headgear with stickers honoring the three Oak Glen students taken in a tragic accident recently.

“Our student body has had T-shirts made-up to show their support for Oak Glen but we wanted to do something on our own, show them we care and that we support them through this tough time,” Potter coach Chad Hager said.

The weather has wrecked havoc on the high school schedules and both teams were thankful just to get on the mats.

“We haven’t wrestled since the OVACs and it showed,” said Hager. “It’s been a long break, we could have wrestled better and our conditioning could have better.”

Oak Glen’s Will Hogan got the Bears a win by forfeit at the 160 pound class to start the match. Devon Chadwick pinned Jimmy Lisk at 182 giving the Bears the a 12-0 edge they built on through the match. Liverpool’s OVAC champs Alex Potts and John Miscuk continued the winning ways with victories. Potts handlef the Bears Ryan Debee 13-6 while Miscuk pinned Oak Glen’s Dakota Price at the 1:35 mark.

Oak Glen’s head coach Pat McGillian also seemed relieved to finally be back on the mats.

“We were a little sloppy, but we were physical and that’s good, but no doubt, the long down time showed.”
