CALCUTTA - Ruth E. Perkins, age 97, formerly of Grant Street in Irondale, passed away at the Calcutta Health Care in Calcutta on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, after an extended illness.
She was born in Irondale on March 9, 1917, the daughter of the late Edgar Earl McLain and Marie (James) McLain and had lived her entire life there. Mrs. Perkins had been employed as a Cook's Helper for Edison Local Schools before her retirement and was a very active member of the former Irondale Nazarene Church where she directed the Youth Choir, the Junior Choir, and sang in the Adult Choir.
Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Perk" Perkins on Oct. 11, 1986.
Survivors include, one daughter, Donna Jean Montgomery and her husband "Bud" of Toronto; two sons; William "Bill" Perkins and his wife, Lana, of Irondale and Robert "Bob" Perkins and his wife, Ruth Ann, of Midland, Texas; one brother, Glen McLain of Toronto; one sister, Mary Ann Maze of Lisbon; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Perkins was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack McLain, Bill McLain, and James McLain; and three sisters, Jean Nicholson, Rachel McLain, and Esther Spreainde.
Services will be held at the Wellsville Chapel of the Martin MacLean Altmeyer Funeral Homes on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steven Johnson of the Stratton Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in the Morning View Cemetery.
Family will be present to receive friends at the Wellsville funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
