CHESTER - Surrounded by his loving family, William S. (Bill) Miller, 91 of Chester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at the Weirton Medical Center following a brief illness.
A son of the late Hugh and Jessie Allison Miller, Bill was born on Indiana Avenue in Chester on Nov. 20, 1922, and lived here his entire life.
For 40 years, Bill was a lineman for what would become the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. Originally it was known as Bell Telephone.
A proud veteran, he served with the US Army in the European Theater during WW II.
Bill was a lifetime member of both the Chester VFW Post 6450 and American Legion Post 121, where he also was a charter member.
A protestant by faith, he was a 1942 graduate of the former Chester High School.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Miller on Sept. 10, 2001. He was also preceded by a great-granddaughter, Riley Headly; two brothers, Merle Miller and Byron Severs; and one sister, Eleanor Huff.
He leaves two sons, William M. Miller and his wife Terry, and Tom Miller; one daughter, Susie Geisse and her husband Joe, all of Chester; one sister, Martha DeAngelo of Selma, N.C.; and several grand- and great- grandchildren.
The family will be present to receive friends at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and services will be held there on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Katrina Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Mill Creek Hill Cemetery where the National Guard Honor Guard and the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will give full military honors.
