By all indications, last weekend's East Liverpool's Got Talent Music & Arts Festival was a success.
The two-day event, held at Thompson Park, included some 25 musical acts, as well as numerous vendors. It was the brainchild of co-organizers Amy Hissom-Daugherty, Jeff Daugherty, Keith Williams and Pennie Murray Zehnder.
We salute the undertaking by these locals and the 50 volunteers that made it happen.
Despite some early naysayers, Hissom-Daugherty pushed forward to make the dream a reality. In fact, she has bigger plans for her community as she hopes to achieve nonprofit status and make it an annual event.
"We can do so much more with our (nonprofit) status," she said. "We want to turn this into something that includes a contest for youth in the area."
The weekend's musical lineup included a hodgepodge of talent, young and old, and covered most all genres of music.
It was a great happening, bringing the community together - in music.
We back Hissom-Daugherty's effort, and hope others - individuals, businesses, organizations - are encouraged by the "Got Talent" success and will bring more local events to our area.
