LISBON - Virginia D. Witherow, 87, of Steubenville Pike Road, passed away suddenly at 12:56 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Mrs. Witherow was born June 18, 1927, in Wellsville, a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Pressler) Davis, and had lived all of her life in the area.
A graduate of Lisbon David Anderson High School, Virginia was a homemaker and had worked at Thompson Farms for many years.
She was a member of the Bethel United Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and as a member of the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Square Wheels square dance group.
Her husband, Wilbur J. Witherow, whom she married Oct. 21, 1948, preceded her in death March 11, 1985. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Josephine Cochran and Irene Stocks, and brother, John Paul Davis.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by her daughter, Janet S. (Gary) Stark of Salem; sons, James C. (Karen) Witherow of New Cumberland, and Harold W. (Julie) Witherow of Salineville; grandchildren, Melinda (Jim) Gibson, Mark (Tina) Witherow, Mike (Ashley) Witherow, and Regina (Alex) Porter; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at the Eells-Leggett-Stauffer Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Ludwig officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethel U.P. Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home.
