EAST LIVERPOOL - Cletus Payne Sr. passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2014 at East Liverpool City Hospital following an extended illness. He was 82 years old.
Cletus was a devoted supporter of East Liverpool Potter sports and he was born here on Jan. 8, 1932.
He was a son of the late Chester Payne Sr. and Nola Hoskins Payne.
Cletus was a retired railroad conductor for Conrail and he was member of the First Free Methodist Church in East Liverpool.
He was married to the love of his life Leona Fern Payne in Chester on June 24, 1951. They shared 63 beautiful years, and together they traveled to all 48 contiguous states. She survives at their home in East Liverpool.
Cletus will be deeply missed by his children, Cletus Payne Jr. and companion Pat McGee; Charles Payne and wife Rebecca; and Carolyn Beverly and husband Jamie, all of East Liverpool.
He leaves twelve grandchildren, Brad (Nikki) Payne, Ryan (Vanessa) Payne, Steve (Dee) McGee, Julie (Shawn) Henthorne, Charlie Payne II, Sara (Dave) Nicholas, Jocelyn Payne, Alex Payne, Levi Payne, Ayden Payne, Dan Suznevich, and Brian Beverly, and fourteen great grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Emily and Brenna Payne, Kevan Payne, Blake, Elijah and Carstin Beverly, Rowan, Liam and Aiden McGee, and Gauge, Darian, and Ephraim Henthorne.
In addition Cletus leaves a nephew who was like a brother to him, Ed (Dee) Clutter and his sister-in-law, Dorothy Payne.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Elva Bennett, Elvira Kerill and Evalee Hoschar, and his brothers, Chester Payne Jr., Clifford Payne and Charly Payne.
Rev. David Peterson will celebrate Cletus's life on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester where friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Interment will be at Longs Run Presbyterian Cemetery.
At the conclusion of the services on Thursday, a continued time of remembrance will be held at the North side Community Church.
