Christopher E. Gallo, 43, South Broadway Avenue, Salem, was stopped at a stop sign on U.S. Route 62 in Butler Township at 9 p.m. Thursday when he was rear-ended by Edward A. Slimon, 37, Ridge Road, Salem. Slimon was cited for assured clear distance.
Oda K. Sponsel, 49, Vale Road, Rogers, was traveling south on state Route 7 in Fairfield Township at 9:02 p.m. Thursday when she rear-ended Sheila L. Thompson, 54, and Ricki L. Thompson, 54, both of state Route 558, Columbiana. This led to Sheila Thompson rear-ending Carla J. Channell, 60, Sycamore Drive, New Waterford, in which Sponsel also rear-ended Thomas A. Fittante, 73, state Route 46, New Waterford. Both Sheila and Ricki were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Sponsel was cited for OVI and assured clear distance.
Terry L. McCoy, 66, Kelly Park Road, Leetonia, was heading south on Beeson Mill Road in Fairfield Township at 4:25 p.m. Thursday when he drove off the right side of the road and struck a ditch. McCoy said his steering stopped working, and an officer spotted a broken tie rod on his 2004 Cadillac SRX. No citations were issued.
Michael A. Hawkins, 38, First Street, Hanoverton, was traveling south on state Route 164 in Center Township at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday, and was backing up into a private drive when he was struck by Robert P. Bowman, 60, Niles, who was also traveling south. Hawkins was cited for assured clear distance.
Larry A. Kaufman, 71, Butler Grange Road, Salem, was backing up at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Winona Road and Depot Road in Butler Township when he backed into Tyler Douglas Dunn, 20, Winona Road, Salem. Kaufman was cited for improper starting and backing.
Vernon L. Ballard, 40, West Chestnut Street, Lisbon, was at a stop sign on state Route 14 in Unity Township at 11 a.m. Tuesday, and was attempting to turn left on Hadley Road when he was rear-ended by James N. Ostick, 63, West North Avenue, East Palestine. Both drivers sought medical treatment of their own while Ballard's passenger, Felicia M. Benton, 29, Allendale Avenue, New Waterford, was taken to East Liverpool City Hospital for evaluation. Ostick was cited for assured clear distance.
