LISBON - Similar to last year, Saltwell Road between the post office and state Route 164 will be blocked to most traffic when the Columbiana County Fair begins today
Lisbon Mayor Dan Bing said the plan is to again block the road to everyone except those who are moving their trailers and campers into the campground. The other exception will be made for those on the way to the county Municipal Court building, for court hearings or vehicle title work. Fair traffic will again be routed from the top of the hill entrance off state Route 45 to down Dickey Drive and behind the buildings to the parking lot. This keeps the majority of traffic off most of Saltwell Road to make crossing the road safer for fairgoers. As promised, the state's contractors have cleaned up the construction equipment and signs which accompanied the sidewalk and intersection project at the corner of state Route 45 and Saltwell Road. The barrels and most importantly the sign stopping those coming southbound on state Route 45 from making a left turn onto Saltwell Road have been removed.
Bing said the village was assured the state project would be completed or out of the way by the county fair and that promise has been kept.
Additionally, Bing said the village has been busy getting ready for the fair, patching Race Road last week. The roadway has been blocked by signs alerting drivers about the danger of large holes in the road this summer. However, Bing said the road should be ready to handle the additional traffic by the time county fair begins.
