FOLLANSBEE - Gloria Mae Riggs Six, 84, slipped peacefully and assuredly into Heaven at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, following a lengthy illness. Gloria, who had resided in Chester for many years, passed away at the Brightwood Center in Follansbee, W.Va.
She was born in Moundsville, W.Va. on Sept. 14, 1929, a daughter of the late Milton and Effie McCullough Gable.
Following her marriage to Glenn R. Riggs on Nov. 19, 1946, they moved to the Weirton area and raised their family closer to Chester, where their home was a warm and welcoming place for all. Glenn passed away in Sept. of 1998, and Gloria later married Lester Six, who died in 2010.

A very active member of the First Christian Church in Chester at one time, Gloria's faith was the foundation of her life. She had been chairman of the Deaconesses at the church for many years, as well as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Throughout her life, she was happiest when she was taking care of others, especially her beloved family and she also loved playing the piano.
Surviving is her daughter, Sandra L. Loar and her husband, Gary, of Colliers, W.Va., and two sons, Terry G. Riggs and his wife, Debbie, of East Liverpool, and Joseph Scott Riggs and his wife, Renee, of Brandon, Fla. Another daughter, Bonnie S. Lee, died in May of 2012.
Gloria also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Christian M. Riggs, Nicole M. Loar, Stacy A. Popish and her husband, Eric, Stephanie L. Heaton and her husband David, Brian M. Riggs and his wife Emily, Nathan A. Riggs, Jessica S. Kidd and her husband Phillip and Allie R. Wyatt. There are ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren as well as a sister, Norma Jean Williams and her husband, John, of Weirton, and a brother, Milton A. Gable of Ravenswood, W.Va. Her step-children also survive: Marvin Six, Allen Six, Sharon Craig and Marilyn Miller, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her daughter, Gloria was preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley Wyatt and Pauline Taylor, and by her brothers, Giffin Gable and Randolph Gable.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday (today), where the family will be present from 2 to 6 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service on Monday. Pastor Larry Rose of Northside Church will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Gloria will be laid to rest at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, after which time friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for a continued time of fellowship.
