CHESTER, W.Va. - John E. Hissam Jr. 68 passed away peacefully at his home in Chester on Thursday, May 29, 2014 with his loving family at his side.
A son of the late John E. Hissam Sr. and Betty Knox Hissam, he was born here on Sept. 3, 1945.
For 47 years John worked at New Castle Refractories in Newell, last working as a drawer.

He attended the former Wells High in Newell.
John's family was the most important thing in his life. His passion for the great outdoors was evident with the way he lived his life. John was adamant that his grandchildren followed in his footsteps learning how to hunt and fish. In addition, one of his greatest joys in life was being able to attend his grandchildren's sporting events.
His brother, Perry Hissam and sister, Nancy Lindensmith preceded him in death.
John's devoted wife of 48 years whom he married on Jan. 17, 1966, Ora Ryan Hissam survives at home.
He also leaves his children Sherry, Betty and Tina Hissam of Chester; Karen McCoy and husband Bear of Hookstown.
His grandchildren include Jefferey and Vanessa Hissam, Tori, Noah, and Charlotte Feicht, and Bishop and Mariah McCoy.
In addition he leaves his brother, Dave Hissam (Robin) of Chester; his sister Clara Clutter (Brady) of Wellsville, his sister in-law Sue Hissam of East Liverpool and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 4 at 11 a.m. at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester and interment will follow at the Locust Hill Cemetery in Chester. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
