KITTANNING, Pa. - Matthew D. Pickering, 16, of Kittanning, Pa., passed away May 24, 2014, at Children's Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa., after a long battle with Leukemia.
Born Oct. 17, 1997, in East Franklin Twp., the son of David and Lori (Bissell) Pickering, he was a Sophomore at West Shamoken High School.
He was a member of Heilman Emmanuel Luthern Church, Ford City, Pa. He was a member of the West Shamoken Marching Band; played Magic Cards with his friends; and played Architectural Legos and loved Archeology. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs Annie, Lexie and Gracie.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, John and Frances Pickering of Wellsville; sisters, Jessica and husband Mark Mangir of Philadelphia, Emily Pickering of Kittanning, Pa.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Diane Bissell.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Heilman Emmanuel Luthern Church, Ford City, Pa., with the Rev. Kevin L. Mackey officiating. Burial will be in Ford City Cemetery.
A prayer service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mantini Funeral Home, Inc., 701 Sixth Ave., Ford City, Pa.
